About Mead
Long before grapes became the world’s most famous wine, there was mead. Crafted by fermenting honey with water and yeast, mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in the world—enjoyed for thousands of years across cultures and civilizations.
Today, modern meaderies are redefining this ancient beverage with fresh, fruit-forward styles that are vibrant, refreshing and remarkably food-friendly.
At Lion’s Head Meadery, traditional meadmaking meets Thompson Valley terroir and creativity. Their meads are crafted in a dry, wine-style with alcohol levels between 11.5–13.5%, allowing the character of the fruit, honey, and terroir to shine.
While honey naturally contributes gentle acidity and floral aromatics, they ferment meads with whole fruits to add natural acidity, colour, and subtle tannins, creating balanced meads that pair beautifully with food.
Each mead reflects the fruit and landscapes of British Columbia—from the orchards of the Thompson Valley to the cool northern fields where haskap berries thrive.

The Tasting Experience
This is where curiosity becomes discovery.
Enjoy a guided flight of small-batch meads as the family introduces guests to the fascinating world of mead—explaining how it’s made, the role of different honey varieties, and how fruit, botanicals and fermentation influence flavour.
Whether you prefer traditional dry, or fruit-infused styles, there is something for everyone and every palate with some delightful surprises along the way.
Many first-time visitors arrive unsure what to expect. Most leave wondering why they waited so long to discover mead.
A mead tasting flight costs $10.00; the price is waived with a minimum 2-bottle purchase.

Sustainability
Sustainability Starts with the Bees, and every great mead begins with healthy bees.
At Lion’s Head Meadery, sustainability begins long before harvest.
Healthy bee populations are essential—not only for producing honey, but also for pollinating countless fruit crops and native plants that support healthy ecosystems and local agriculture.
By caring for their own apiaries and sourcing fruit from thier own property and select BC growers, Lion’s Head celebrates the close relationship between bees, farming and exceptional craft beverages.
Every glass is a reminder of the remarkable role pollinators play in our environment.
